Next Generation Bioremediation for Oil Spill Cleanup

I helped a company build their business computer system years ago and have followed their progress.

The firm is BioWorldUSA.com and they have a next generation bioremediation technology (does NOT use nitrogen and phosphorus) that is ready for large scale application in the water, marsh, beach, rocks, docks, boats and other surfaces.

I looked them up on the EPA-NCP list and BioWorld is #B59.

They had 97% oil degradation in less than 28 days of testing at the EPA recommended lab. BioWorld did a project when I was there that actually had performed even better in large oil cleanup projects than in the lab scale tests.

I spoke with someone at BioWorld last week and they cannot believe that BP or EPA has not begun using this newer type of bioremediation in the Gulf of Mexico yet.

I did see a story online where a professor at Lawrence Berkley Lab says bioremediation did not work at the Valdez oil spill so it is best to do nothing in the Gulf of Mexico. That does not make sense to have a scientist make that comment when nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer was used as a rudimentary bioremediation in 1989.

I am thankful my medical doctor kept learning new techniques and the pharmaceutical industry has new products from biotechnology to make life better and save lives.

I would think the people in charge of the Gulf oil spill cleanup would want to evaluate the best technologies available. Even President Obama has said he wants to support innovative companies.

There should be someone that can make a wise decision to use the BioWorld bioremediation technology for all future oil spill cleanup any where on earth.

From what I have read about cleanup, the bioremediation can perform better than booms, burning, vacuum, pressure washing, steam cleaning, A Whale skimmer ship, centrifuge systems like Cosner had, dispersants, soaker pads, straw bales, hair and many other things tried in the Gulf. What if BioWorld works at 100%? No one knows for sure until the products are used in large scale oil spill cleanup.

I even saw a photo online of a Coast Guard Seaman wiping crude oil from blades of grass in the marsh using a roll of paper towels. Bioremediation must be more efficient than paper towels. Someone should give BioWorld the evaluation the technology has earned.

The company is BioWorld Products Inc, Visalia California, 559-651-2042,

http://www.BioWorldUSA.com

They are a small company but I helped them years ago make plans for fasts expansion where they can make large amounts of product in a short time for oil spills.

This was back in preparation for the Prestige Spill in Spain 2002 and I was helping them with First Response Plans. They got a small bioremediation project of $250,000 for marsh oil cleanup after more lab scale testing and a big report at the University of Valencia. The oil cleanup was really fast in the marsh area and the grass survived.

BioWorld had a distributor in Spain for their other line of products but they were in the wrong political party for getting the big contracts to finish the whole oil cleanup.

I am writing this about BioWorld because they are fine, hardworking people that have great technology - more people should know about them. By the way, I am not getting paid for anything from BioWorld and have not had computer projects for them in several years.

A concerned person, Alan.

BP is literally banking on our "gnat-sized" attention spans and our understandable crisis fatigue to let them get away virtually scot free from any responsibility, whether financial or moral, for this massive, man made disaster. They continue to inhibit the flow of accurate information about what has and what is currently happening in the Gulf, they continue to destroy and hide evidence of their culpability, buying scientists, lawyers and politicians, even reporters. Media outlets want us to believe that the oil is largely gone or missing somehow. It may not be as visible now in some areas, but it is there continuing to suck oxygen from the water, causing huge "dead zones" -- worse, the toxic dispersants used, largely against recommendations, are there too, making the oil even more dangerous. Please do not buy the media line and assume that soon the crisis will be past. Don't let BP or Congress off the hook. They could be the only creatures on the hook in large portions of the gulf right now!

Bush administration did a big mistake trying to push comprehensive Immigration Reform at once. The entire reform sank in 2006-2007 after multiple attempts. Current administration should learn from those mistakes and address different issues separately. Mainly, illegal immigration and border security should be addressed separately from issues related to ‘legal’ immigration.

One of ‘legal’ immigration issues is an increasing H1B cap for skilled workers with degrees (BS, MA, PhD) from U.S. universities. It is a known fact that many talented international students end up going back to their country to work for foreign competitors.

While different research articles debate whether Americans have tougher times in job search because of being “crowded out” by foreign workforce, two facts are evident to everybody:

1) US universities’ train students who end up working for foreign competitors.

2) A ‘new normal’ job search environment: on average Americans spend more than 6 months to find another job, longest unemployment since World War II.

It is my hope Obama administration will address separately issues of: a) illegal immigrants and securing borders and b) increasing of U.S. competitiveness in global economy through immigration incentives for highly skilled workforce, i.e. BS, MS, PhD degree holders to retain the best and the brightest in U.S.
